To my surprise, celebrating raya haj in a holiday mood setting rather than the usual 'balik kampung' tradition, is not bad at all.
Nothing much differs, the usual raya pray, the food binge (yes! my mom cooked!) and the excessive noise. The only thing missing was the droves of friends and family visiting us and the receiving of the korban meat from the surau next door. Otherwise it was still raya to us but with great compensation of having to fling ourselves into the pool right after..hehe
But of course the only thing that marred the day was the execution of Saddam Hussein. He may has been a tyrant, a dictator, a barbaric man and deserved his justice but to do it a day before raya haji when 7 million muslim was gathering in Arafah is a real insult to muslim all over. On top of that broadcasting the execution to the world on saturday, to me it was meant to serve as a warning to others to bow to Bush administration or face the consequences of public murder! Even the trial was a mockery of justice befits a kangaroo court!
Oh and my sis in law hung up her hammock and we all had a great time taking turns swinging like jakuns!
